This episodic novel (which Woolrich worked on piece-meal because his mother was dying) was published in July of 1958, and was dedicated to his mother. The setting is room 923 of New York's Hotel St. Anselm - the same name Woolrich used for the hotel in his classic story "Mystery in Room 913." Each of the stories are told through the people who have checked into room 923 between the years 1896 and the late 1950s. Unfortunately, the book wasn't reviewed by the New York Times, as most of his books had been, nor was it picked up by any book clubs or paperback publishers. It represents his last attempt to break out as a mainstream author, and has never been published since it's initial publication. Here it is available for the first time since 1958!
“Cornell Woolrich deserves to be discovered and rediscovered by each generation." – Ray Bradbury
